Lenora Helm Online is committed to serving vocal musicians of all ages. Beginning with Vocal Jazz Online in 2011, founder Lenora Helm Hammonds (p/k/a Lenora Zenzalai Helm) has since created several online courses including Vocal Jazz Summer Camp, Vocal Musicianship Academy, and Songwritiers Workshop.
Lenora Helm Hammonds has six CD releases as a leader under her performance name Lenora Zenzalai Helm, recording and performing in renowned jazz festivals and venues worldwide. She is Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, NC, where she directs their award-winning NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and coordinates the activities in the vocal jazz component of the NCCU Jazz Studies program. In this role, she serves the graduate and undergraduate vocal jazz and contemporary music performance majors by teaching jazz vocal combo, applied vocal music, jazz vocal ear training, songwriting and a collaborative global classroom course (Collaborative Online International Learning) with Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, Denmark and University of South Africa, Pretoria.
A former U.S. Jazz Ambassador, Fulbright Senior Specialist, Salzburg Global Citizenship Fellow, and 2015 GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year Quarterfinalist, she leads a team of international educators to create globally networked learning environments. Hammonds has authored a number of online courses and written syllabi for international universities and independent music companies. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Film Scoring and Voice from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Music in Jazz Performance at East Carolina University, and recently completed coursework toward a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University’s program with an eye on completion in 2017.
