THERE'S HOPE
You Can CreateÂ
Career Clarity
When we don’t realize what business we are truly in, we work to fill our calendars, and schedule outward appearances of success; This may feel like what we see others’ achieve - streams of our music in the social media apps, likes on our social media pages, personal appearances, or gigs. The confusion builds with your personal frustration in being unable to recognize which path would take you forward, and have anxiety over how to have a flow of income in the present gig economy. Artists are so burnt out, frustrated and disillusioned, the feelings of anxiety mount, leading us to wonder if we should have listened to the naysayers by creating a "Plan B."
Learn the formulas to build your arts practice:
- Embed your values in your expression authentically.
- Finally get aligned and connected with YOUR audience.
- Remove the fog about your income, cash flow, and business structure, whether a freelancer or entrepreneur.
- Diversify your arts income, so you don’t have to worry about ups and downs in your work cycles.
- Get connected within a community to develop collaborations and a variety of thought partners.

Introduction of the 5c’s Framework and overview of the resources available as a part of The Grounded Voice community will also be covered.

Week 2
Freelancer or Entrepreneur;Â
Understanding the distinctions of arts business models.
In this second week we discuss Creatives’ first steps into business building. Whether you are just out of college with arts degree(s) in hand, at a midpoint in your arts career or looking to pivot to gain stability by adding income streams open to artists, the road toward those goals can be fuzzy. There is a false idea that artists must have a Plan B, when instead you need to know what business you're in and why, and the unique areas in which artists thrive. Freelancing is a solo journey, and success at this initial level can lead to adding more team members too early, or knowing what the signals are when your business expands. Entrepreneurs were once Freelancers. The skills needed by each are similar, but vastly different in the financial underpinnings. In this second week we unpack the difference between Freelancer and Entrepreneur and the pros and cons to each.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- How to cultivate opportunities and connections and the best way to secure a constant stream of work.
- Change the narrative about your access to funding to support to your work and projects.Â
- Which business model to choose and when to move to the next level, e.g. DBA, vs LLC vs. S Corp and more.

Ain’t Nothing Going on But the Rent:
Financial Literacy for Artists.
Â
To gain cash flow in your arts business you must increase the opportunity to acquire, absorb, and apply some basic financial principles to your line of work. These principles will account for most of your fiscal health in your business, and without them you will continue to have ebbs and flows in your business.

- How to diversify your revenue on autopilot.
- The best tax strategies for artists' income.
Live Session: May 7th, 6 pm EST
You’ll finish this week's lesson with your artist income plan for the next 5 years.

"Dr. Hammonds teaches not only from her mind but also from her heart. She trains a student's whole being rather than just training their voice, and her teaching includes counseling on combatting common barriers to success for many artists, such as self doubt and imposter syndrome. She understands what it takes to function as an artist in today's society and imparts the necessary skills and values into her students to serve as educators, writers, performers, and producers, as well as accomplished vocalists. "
- Anna B.

"Dr. Hammonds, hands down is one of the most prolific, qualified voices of our time, and I'm not meaning just the stage. Her ability to consistently inspire me through her words of wisdom, dedication to the beauty of the art form, and tenacity have consistently inspired me for years to be who I am--on and off the bandstand. She is truly an asset to any musician's career as a consult and navigator.
- Le'Andra M.

"After years of struggling with finding my voice, I can comfortably say that I now perform at a professional level."
- Elijah H.

“I can truly say that I have grown tremendously as an individual and as a musician since I have been both a student in Dr. Hammonds’ vocal studio and a fellow colleague. She seems to be teaching at every moment, even in the times when it is not intended. I know that God himself placed Professor Hammonds in my life with purpose and I am truly grateful for all of the wisdom she continues to share and the time she so graciously and tirelessly sacrifices in an effort to ensure the success of her students and the surrounding community."
